In June 2018, at six years old, Michael was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma. Over the next six and a half years, he faced countless treatments — rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgeries, blood transfusions, thousands of pokes and blood draws, and extended hospital stays. Through every procedure, he displayed remarkable courage, love, and resilience.
A large part of Michael’s life was spent in hospitals and undergoing treatment — something no child should have to endure. But whenever he was able to be out of the hospital, he truly lived. He gave his love freely to his family and friends and never wanted to miss a moment. Even when he wasn’t feeling well, if there was somewhere to go or people to be with, he wanted to be there. While he missed out on so much, including time in school, he made the most of every moment he could — living fully, loving deeply, and bringing joy to those around him.
Even in the toughest moments, Michael remained kind, brave, and encouraging. The nurses often joked that they would fight over who got to take care of Michael that day — he was an easy patient, and they loved talking to him. Michael, in turn, loved to charm them with his humor, intelligence, and warmth, brightening the room even on the hardest days. His strength and positivity inspired everyone around him — family, friends, and strangers alike.
Michael fought bravely for six and a half years. He passed away in January 2025, and he is forever 12. His life, courage, and joy continue to inspire us every day.
🕊️ Why the name “Saint Michael’s Angels”?
During his treatments, Michael drew inspiration from Saint Michael the Archangel. He admired the archangel’s strength and courage as a warrior who fought against evil, and he wore Saint Michael medallions as a personal reminder to stay strong. Today, Michael’s story and the foundation that bears his name continue to bring light, support, and hope to children and families facing similar battles.
